KADA NKEA PROJECT

KADA NKEA Project (National Key Economic Area) is a Rice Estate Project with Centralised Management. KADA NKEA projects is placed under the agriculture sector programme of EPP 11 which is "Strengthening and Improving Rice Productivity" in Granary Areas.

NKEA is defined as a potential driver of economic activity directly contribute significantly to economic growth, with the value that can be measured by indicators of gross national income (GNI) and jobs created as well as attract the best talent. NKEA also approach economic development differently, where economic growth will be driven by the private sector and supported by the government acting as a facilitator.

KADA goals in the management of NKEA project is to manage the pattern of rice plants more efficiently. KADA will create tables for all stages of the rice planting activities starting from land preparation up to harvesting. While operators only to follow each of these activities. Centralized management will create a uniform activity.

Uniform activity will reduce expenses and also make it easier to carry out any activity of rice such as :

a) The distribution of irrigation.

b) Plowing Machine.

c) Purchase of rice seeds.

d) Purchase of inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides.

e) Activities of the spraying of herbicides, insecticides and diseases and also harvesting activities.

While the government's aim is :  

a) To increase the average yield of 4.0 tons/ha to 6.5 tons/ha.

b) To increase per capita income of RM24,000.00/year to RM48,000.00 per annum by 2020.

Who is eligible to participate in the project NKEA?

a) All rice planting operator/farmer in the KADA region.

b) Landowners and tenants.

Criteria for selection of the area?

a) The area is at least 100 hectares or 250 acres.

b) Areas that potentially can increase the yield up to 6.5 tons/hectare.

Conditions accompanying NKEA project?

a) Management fees will be charged from entrepreneurs RM70.00 per tons of net rice.

b) The Government will pay incentives to landlords RM2000.00/ha per season for 5 seasons.

c) Sales of rice shall be via PPK.
